Alumni from across the country are expected to converge on South Florida for the inaugural Orange Legends Charity Golf Tournament, to be hosted by former Orange basketball great Sherman Douglas ’89 and featuring Orange legends from football, basketball and lacrosse.

The charity tournament will be held on Monday, Nov. 14 at the Club at Weston Hills in Weston, Florida, just west of Fort Lauderdale. The event will support the Our Time Has Come Orange Legends Scholarship, which was established in 2020 by Roland Williams ’97, Juli and Jim Boeheim ’66, G’73, and Douglas, as well as the Women’s Basketball Head Coach’s Fund in support of Coach Felisha Legette-Jack ’89.

Alumni can sign up as individual golfers or foursomes. As an alternative to the tournament, a golf clinic with a PGA pro is also offered, teaching the basics of the game. The event will culminate with an awards ceremony and live auction of exclusive items and experiences.

“We are thrilled that Sherman has graciously offered to host this event and recruit fellow Orange Legends to participate,” says Miko Horn’95, director of alumni events in the Office of Multicultural Advancement. “This inaugural tournament is part of our year-long 40th anniversary celebration but we hope for it to become an annual event supporting the Our Time Has Come (OTHC) program.”

The OTHC Scholarship assists first-generation and underrepresented students through scholarship awards based on academic achievement and unmet financial need. Additionally, OTHC offers its participants leadership development training, alumni networking opportunities, corporate immersions, and mentorship from Syracuse University alumni and friends. At present, the OTHC Scholarship Fund can support 100 students with an average $4,000 scholarship each academic year. Through fundraising events such as the Orange Legends Charity Golf Tournament, SUMA is working to double the number of OTHC Scholars.
