Turn Up On the Quad
Every Syracuse University alumnus has great memories of beautiful afternoons spent on the Quad. Get ready to make some new memories at the Cookout on the Quad during CBT Reunion weekend, hosted by the Office of Multicultural Advancement in partnership with the Office of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving.
In addition to delicious food and refreshing drinks, the event will feature giveaways and entertainment from Generation Orange alumni: DJs Denasia Lawrence ’13 and Daniel Nuñez ’15 and emcee Andres Rivera ’15.
Lawrence—aka Thee Songbird—aka SB Thee DJ—is a gifted singer who has performed on many stages, including the famed Apollo Theater and with the Black Celestial Choral Ensemble while an undergrad (including at CBT). Although new to the DJ scene since 2022, she says she is not new to the groove. An open format DJ, nothing off limits when SB Thee performs. She brings together house, hip-hop, soul, reggae and many other genres to get and keep the crowd movin’.
“I am beyond grateful to be able to provide the musical vibes for the Cookout on the Quad,” says Lawrence, who was initiated into the Kaptivating Kappa Lambda chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. as an undergrad. “Attendees can expect to hear some of their favorite throwback tunes and definitely expect to move and groove on the quad. I am excited to see everyone, make new connections and celebrate US at CBT.”
Nuñez, better known to the turntables as DJ Damyo (pronounced like “Damn Yo”–a playful twist on the name Daniel), is thrilled to come back for CBT Weekend. He’s been spinning tracks since his undergrad days as a member of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity Inc., Kappa Chapter, lighting up Harry’s bar every Friday night. By day he’s the marketing manager for the Last Stop Bar and Grill in the Bronx, where he handles social media content and DJ bookings.
“I can't wait to reconnect with all of you and make this CBT weekend one for the books,” he says. “Let’s create some epic memories together!”
Pulling it all together will be Rivera, under his stage name Andres Dualità. A marketing graduate with a career in advertising and a member of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity Inc., Kappa Chapter, Rivera is also a renowned event producer, emcee/host and curator, celebrated for his bilingual singalong party, Èn My Bag. His events are a testament to his unique ability to blend his rich Dominican heritage with the diverse cultural tapestry of his upbringing in the Bronx and Yonkers. The CBT Cookout on the Quad will be no exception!
